Beautifully patinated, stone carved boomerang from a Leipzig colonial collection from around 1910.
The boomerang is a traditional throwing weapon. Although sports boomerangs return to the pitcher with a correct throw, it was not necessarily the case with traditional Australian (throwing wood). The advantage of the throwing wood is that it flies further, more straightforward and therefore flies more effectively like a returning boomerang.
